The following is a letter I just mailed to the Republican National Committee:
Dear RNC:
I am in receipt of your recent email seeking donations in support of Herschel Walker. I am more than a little surprised that I am on any list you maintain, as I am a lifelong Democrat. On the other hand, I consider myself an American first and as such, I do my best to exercise my franchise, my gift of citizenship, in a manner that puts my community and my country first, ahead of party or political calculation. Perhaps that is why you have me on your list? Just in case I might be one of those voters who would find Herschel Walker a candidate worthy of my support? I think not.
The fact that one of our nation’s two established and historic political parties would consider Mr. Walker worthy of support for election to the United States Senate speaks volumes about the sad deterioration of the Republican Party. Mr. Walker’s many speeches, statements and other forms of attempted communication have demonstrated, beyond any shadow of doubt, that he is not only unqualified to serve as an elected representative of people in a nation founded on the vital principal of representative democracy, but lacks the education, temperament and basic knowledge of our form of government to serve in any capacity at any level of government. To suggest otherwise is to reveal a belief in an alternate form of reality.
Given the foregoing, what possible reason is there to lend your support to Mr. Walker? The answer goes to the heart of what is wrong with the modern Republican Party, a party that historically held to a core set of beliefs and policy positions that I have always respected even if I disagreed with many of those beliefs and positions. The transformation of your party began before the criminal Trump, who only exacerbated the terrible and dangerous shift in your reason for being.
An honest appraisal of today’s Republican Party reveals the following. Only one major political party has seen the resignation of so many former members because that party became something other than a legitimate source for our nation’s leaders. Has the Democratic Party seen such resignations? The answer is no. The Republican Party?
George Will. Rick Wilson, Stuart Stevens, Christine Todd Whitman, Steve Schmidt, Miles Taylor, Bill Kristol and so many more. And then there are the scores of respected national leaders who have spoken out against what The Republican Party stands for today. The list is a who’s who with no comparable list connected to today’s Democratic Party. You know the names: Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Ben Ginsberg, former President George W. Bush, David Jolly, Jim Glassman, Elizabeth Neumann, Hon. J. Michael Luttig, Ted Olson, John Danforth, Gordon H. Smith, David Hoppe, Larry Hogan, and on, and on, and on.
Why? What is at the heart of the disintegration of what was a legitimate, mainstream debate partner to the Democrats? The answer goes beyond the mere lust for power. The answer goes to the heart of what it means to live in community with other human beings.
What is abundantly clear today is reflected in recent studies about the alarming polarization in our society. Perhaps due to the multi-generational lack of civics education in our schools and certainly due to the increasing and horrible influence of social media, there is a sickness sweeping the nation when it comes to how we see each other. There was a time when Americans of goodwill could have a respectful debate about social, economic and political issues and then get together for a beer or ice cream after their debate. There was a time when a person who believed in progressive or, yes, let’s say it, liberal causes could have a debate with a person who believed strongly in conservatism and then agree to disagree. There was a time when folks on the left and folks on the right could go to their polling place, exercise their right to vote and then when the results were announced, they accepted those results and vowed to try again the next time.
Today, mostly one side, the Republican side, believes that progressives and liberals are not just wrong, but instead are evil, dangerous and must be stopped at all costs. This writer knows that he never held such a view. I never believed that the George Wills of the world were evil. I respected their conservatism even if I disagreed with it. I believe that most Democrats never believed Republicans were evil. But somewhere along the way, millions of Republicans, conservatives and “right-wingers” came to believe that Democrats were evil, dangerous and had to be stopped, at all costs.
The result? The Republican Party will sponsor anyone, no matter how unqualified, no matter how incompetent, no matter how much they lack in ethics, temperament and decency, to run for a seat in Congress or in a state legislature as long as that person will vote in lockstep with the modern Republican Party that has taken on the Tea Party/Trumpism mantle. If a turtle could be persuaded to touch the right button in the House Chamber, that turtle would be supported by today’s Republican Party. Today’s Republican Party cares only about obtaining, maintaining, and expanding its power. Of course, there is another word for that; authoritarianism.
So if you do not mind, I will decline your invitation to support Herschel Walker. In doing so, I ask only that those who lead your party look in the mirror and ask, do I feel good about leading the charge for Herschel Walker to become “Senator” Walker? If you can honestly look in that mirror and feel good about what you are doing, then I can only say, goodbye America.
Very truly yours,
Gary N. Stern
INVITATION VIA EMAIL TO SUPPORT HERSCHEL WALKER
Herschel Walker is a MASONIC ASSHAT and I suspect Gary is as well. STOP VOTING FOLKS, YOUR CITIZENSHIP IS SINKING and y'all are going to hell. BUT, Satan still LOVES YOU!
Hey Gary, the "disability" that the 14th Amendment speaks of REMOVING is for Congress to BE TRAITORS to the United States Government and I have proof that Congress voted the day after that "BILL" was passed to REMOVE that disability. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it because whatever you ARE smoking has you screwing yourselves to BE citizens of the State. You see, I also have proof that the Legal Name has a DIFFERENT DATE OF BIRTH than "the child that is BORN ALIVE at the hour, date and place shown on that Certificate. Attorneys are in DEEP $hit right now!
